We Must Pray for Israel - it is our Mandate from God
This message was given by Pastor Keith on Sunday, Nov 18, 2012 to the congregation of Christ View Church,Phoenix, AZ
Israel has come under tremendous attack this week. Militant Islamic forces have sent barrage after barrage of rockets on Israel, ranging from the South of Israel, to Jerusalem, and even all the way up near Tel-Aviv.
Also this week, the Israeli military in the Golan Heights in the North near the Syrian border went on high alert, as exchange of fire between the borders of Israel and Syria erupted for the first time since 1973.
Every week I stand here before you and ask you to remember to Pray for Israel with me.
But why? We don't do it just because I say so! We do it is because it is a command with a Promise.
Psalm 122:6-9 NKJV
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: "May they prosper who love you.
Peace be within your walls, Prosperity within your palaces."
For the sake of my brethren and companions, I will now say, "Peace be within you."
Because of the house of the Lord our God I will seek your good.
BLESSED BE the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee to set thee on his throne, [to be] king for the LORD thy God:
because thy God loved Israel, to establish them forever, therefore made he thee king over them, to do judgment and justice.
2 Chronicles 9:8
God's chosen land is Israel, His chosen people the Jews. More than this, Jerusalem is God's house on Earth.
How many "houses" of GOD are there? There is only one, as Holy Scripture so very clearly tells us in a plenitude of verses.
In the Old Testament there was only one House of GOD. What began as a tent (tabernacle), culminated in a magnificent temple in Jerusalem.
There was only one tent, followed in time by only one temple.
2 Chronicles 30:1, "Hezekiah sent to all Israel and Judah, and wrote letters also to E'phraim and Manas'seh, that they should come to the house of the Lord at Jerusalem, to keep the Passover to the LORD the God of Israel."
One Tent, one Tabernacle, one City, one Nation!
Genesis 28:16-17, "Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, "Surely the Lord is in this place; and I did not know it."
And he was afraid, and said, "How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of GOD, and this is the gate of heaven."
Did you notice that the "house of GOD" is not only "awesome", but it is also the "gate of heaven"? It must be so important to God that He put this in his Holy Scriptures.
Here are Seven Reasons we should pray especially for Israel
God has not finished with Israel - God has not rejected His people whom He foreknew.
God did not reject his people, whom he foreknew. Rom 11:2 NIV
You're my servant: 0 Israel, I will not forget you. Isa 44:21
I will bring you back into your own land... I will give you a new heart and put my Spirit in you. (Ezek 36:24 ... 27
We as Gentiles have benefited from their fall
"Through their trespass, salvation has come to the Gentiles." Romans 11:11
We have a continuing dependence upon the past, present and future of Israel
The Apostle Paul tells us to remember that, "it is not you that support the root, but the root that supports you". Romans 11:17 RSV
It is for this reason alone that the America has been blessed with the fruitfulness and prosperity that it has enjoyed because WE HAVE STOOD with Israel.
God will bless the nations that bless Israel and destroy nations that turn against Israel.
If we as a nation turn our backs on Israel, God has a mandate to destroy us, He gave his word in this regard.
"And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] I will seek to destroy all the NATIONS that come against Jerusalem". Zechariah 12:9
God loves Israel - Shouldn't we?
They are beloved for the sake of their fathers. 'Israel I have loved you with an everlasting love. Jeremiah 31:1 .. 3
God calls us to show mercy to Israel
"That through your mercy they also may receive mercy". Romans 11:31 RSV
Greater blessing is promised the world through Israel
"For if-their rejection means the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance mean but life from the dead? Romans 11:15
There are Repeated exhortations to pray for Israel in Gods Word
"My heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved." Romans 10 : l AV
We find more of the same exhortation in: Isaiah 62:1 ... 7, Romans 9:1 ... 5
So today let us be like the Prophet of old, Samuel who said: Far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by ceasing to pray for you. I Sam12:23.
(Pastor Keith then ask the congregation to come to the front of the sanctuary, join hands and agree with him in this prayer.)
Will you Stand with me and Let us pray together for the Peace of Jerusalem.
"Our Father in Heaven, Hollowed by thy name. thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, you have chosen a single people, the Jews to carry your Name and the promise of your favor and blessing.
We bless the children of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. We also bless the city you have given to them as the geographic center of this covenant.
We bless Jerusalem, the City of Peace, as a place of true peace, and a place governed and managed and cared for by the Jewish people
as an international center of worship and connection with you, God of all.
We bless your choice to set Jerusalem under the stewardship of the Jews.
We do not understand all your ways or all your choices, but we will always submit to them.
So, We ask as well that you would indeed bless the Palestinian people with their own favor,
as You promised to bless Ishmael because he too was a son of Abraham.
Open their eyes to see that they too are offered a covenant connection to their Father God,
that in Jesus they too can connect to the favor they so yearn to gain, without the destruction of the Jewish nation.
God, we ask you to once again visit this great and ancient city and Nation.
We ask that your Spirit will come again and bring peace and blessing and prosperity to Jerusalem.
We bless the Israeli people and ask for wisdom and courage as they are in such turmoil as a nation right now.
We Pray that the leasers of Israel would have divine wisdom, and that the hard decisions they have to make will be directed by you will.
I pray that the military weapons, the Iron Dome, and the David's Sling, will continue to be so powerful and operate in such perfection
that as you have said, we now proclaim in Isa 54:17,
"No Weapon forged against them will prosper?"
No matter when, when, or what, those weapons are. WE pray that lives will be spared on both sides of the conflict and that the boarders of Israel will be secure.
We Pray for our own Nation, America, and for other nations who are standing with your chosen people.
We know that you will prosper and secure those who do. May our own President and leaders heard your voice and do your will.
Now most importantly Father, may your One and Only Son be honored there, in the very place he was once mocked and killed.
For in Jerusalem Jesus, was made the ultimate and perfect sacrifice for all mankind's sin, he also rose from the dead,
and there his own people received power from the Holy Spirit to become the sons of God, his ambassadors of life power, and light.
We pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
In the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, we pray these things,
